MITCHELL — The Mitchell Area Development Corporation is providing an opportunity for anyone interested in developing a piece of land along the west edge of Mitchell to submit plans.

In an effort to be fair, Geri Beck, CEO of the Mitchell Area Development Corporation (MADC), said the nonprofit organization will be welcoming Request For Proposals (RFP) on the roughly 20-acre patch of land that’s located north of West Havens Avenue, next to the Pepsi-Cola building.

“In the interest of being fair, we are going to go ahead and ask for RFPs for that property,” Beck said during the Jan. 17 Mitchell City Council meeting.

Beck said the land — more commonly referred to as Goldie’s property — has recently attracted some interested buyers.

The MADC owns the 20-acre property, which is divided into five lots adjacent to one another. Situated along West Havens Avenue and Highway 38 near a handful of commercial businesses, the Goldie’s property is surrounded by businesses that see steady flows of traffic, such as Cubby’s gas station and Graphic Packaging.

According to the RFP requirements for interested developers’ plans to qualify for the land, the land must begin development within 180 days after the RFP is awarded by the MADC.

In addition, RFPs must include plans for developing the land, a proposed timeline of the development, projected amounts of investments into the plans and proposed project financing sources.

RFPs must be submitted by March 1, according to the MADC. The organization will aim to select an RFP by March 31.

Davison County property records show the assessed value of the MADC’s lots combined is $84,730.
