The name was derived from biblical scripture which describes those faithful to God as similar to a fruitful tree.

MITCHELL — A Mitchell church used this past weekend as an opportunity to rebrand itself, adding an appeal to those outside the city limits of Mitchell.

Mitchell Wesleyan Church began operating as RiverTree Church on Sunday, something church leaders say is a way to become more inviting to residents who don’t live in Mitchell.

“Many of our church members come to us from outside of Mitchell. This is something that has been in the works for a while, and it feels really good to see it come to life,” Pastor Dan Ziebarth said.

Everything else about Mitchell Wesleyan Church will remain the same, including the church’s denominational affiliation and vision.

The new name, however, includes fresh graphics and a “Live Rooted” tagline geared to help attract new families and young people looking to live out their faith in a practical, daily way.

“As we move forward, we want a name that captures who we are striving to be rather than just merely communicating where our church meets,” Ziebarth said.

The name was derived from biblical scripture which describes those faithful to God as similar to a fruitful tree.

“They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water,” Jeremiah 17:8 reads. “Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit."

New digital platforms for RiverTree Church were revealed May 1, with other changes to come over the following months.

As part of the celebration, RiverTree Church is partnering with the City of Mitchell to help construct and install “lily pads” in Lake Mitchell to help clean the lake naturally, to take place on June 12 .

Ziebarth said anyone with questions regarding the rebrand can contact him at dan@wearerivertree.com.
