WHEATON, Illinois — Friend de Coup shut the door on their travel schedule for the season by taking the cake once again.
The Mitchell show choir group claimed grand champion, best vocals, best choreography and best band awards at the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Choral Classic on March 12 in Wheaton, Illinois.
Their win marked FDC's first ever at Wheaton Warrenville South's competiton, though it's their sixth time competing at the prestigious classic. FDC is also only the third group from outside Illinois to win the Choral Classic in 14 years of the competition's existence.
Fifteen high school choirs from Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, and South Dakota
competed in the treble/bass and mixed divisions for the daytime, caption and championship awards.
The Choral Classic Master of Ceremonies informed the audience on Saturday night that prior to the Choral Classic, the 15 choirs at the competition held 16 grand champion titles, making it an extremely competitive event.

No other schools from South Dakota placed in the top six.
Now that FDC's travel schedule is over, Mitchell's Performing Arts Center is preparing for the show choir group's takeover.
The PAC will host the Show Choir Classic on March 19 before again hosting FDC for their annual Cabaret on April 7-9.
