MITCHELL — Ashley Hobbs has been named the executive director for Mitchell United Way.

The organization's board of directors announced the hire on Tuesday afternoon. Hobbs, who was working for the Safe Place of Eastern South Dakota Foundation, will assume her new role in mid-February.

“I’m excited to build on the strong foundation of community support for Mitchell United Way," Hobbs said. "I look forward to bringing awareness to our community about the needs and resources our nonprofits have.”

She will replace Dave Stevens, who has led the organization part-time for 15 years and recently announced his retirement.

Mitchell United Way board president Jayson Plamp said in a statement, “We are very excited to have Ashley as our first full-time director. Through our search, Ashley’s experience in fundraising, community relations and marketing clearly shows the right choice to help grow the United Way’s impact on our community.”

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
