A Mitchell surgeon pleaded guilty Thursday to making a threat to the local newspaper.
Jerome Howe, 58, pleaded guilty alongside his lawyer, Russ Janklow. In exchange for the plea, Davison County Assistant State's Attorney Bob O'Keefe agreed to recommend a suspended imposition of sentence, which means that if Howe abides by a list of court-ordered conditions, the charge will be removed from his record.
Judge Patrick Kiner granted the suspended imposition, provided Howe pays a $300 fine and $63 in court costs, remain on good behavior for one year and have no contact with The Daily Republic.
Howe made threatening comments over the phone to the newspaper's editor the evening of March 6.
