LAKE ANDES — A Lake Andes man has been arrested for aggravated domestic assault following threatening a woman with a knife and headbutting her.
Shaun Patterson, 42, faces aggravated domestic assault charges, a Class 3 felony, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum fine of $30,000, if convicted.
According to court documents, law enforcement arrived at a Lake Andes home around 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 12. An investigation and interview with the woman at the home indicated that she was headbutted twice, causing a nosebleed and that Patterson had held a large kitchen knife to her throat. A signed affidavit from a Charles Mix County Sheriff's Deputy said a large amount of blood was in the bathroom sink and on the floor of the home.
The woman said Patterson was inside the house and and would not let her leave, threating to "knock her teeth out and break all her stuff if she tried to leave." The officer collected the large knife as evidence and Patterson was arrested and taken to the Charles Mix County Jail. He refused a preliminary breath test and the affidavit said he was highly intoxicated.
Patterson is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 27.
