Kimball fire destroys mobile home

KIMBALL -- One person was displaced after a mobile home fire on Friday in Kimball.

According to a press release from the American Red Cross, a home on the 300 block of North Main Street in Kimball was destroyed in a fire on Friday.

The Red Cross responded and met with the person to provide food, clothes and "seasonal garments." No one was injured. A spokesman from the organization said the person is staying with friends or family in the area.

No other information was immediately available. Calls to the Kimball Fire Department were not immediately returned.

• Install smoke alarms on every level of the home and outside each sleeping area, placing them on the ceiling or high on the wall.

• Put a smoke alarm inside every bedroom.

• Test the smoke alarms regularly. Install new batteries every year.

• Get new smoke alarms every ten years.

• Keep items that can catch on fire at least three feet away from anything that gets hot, such as sources of heat or stoves.

• Never smoke in bed.

• Turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to sleep.
