John Franklin Thompson, 88, Mitchell, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
He was born on Sept. 11, 1920, in Platte to Elmer and Mary (Campbell) Thompson.
He grew up and attended country school near Platte until the eighth grade.

He then worked as a farm hand near Bonesteel.
He moved to North Carolina, where he worked in a furniture factory for many years.
He moved to Mitchell in the late 1990s, where he lived in Cathedral Squares Apartments before moving to Firesteel Healthcare Center.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Ada Buck, Vivian Himmirich, Delma Earl and Ruth Brogen; and a brother, Albert Thompson.
