NEW HOLLAND — The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has identified the 16-year-old male who died July 2 in Douglas County.
Joseph Carle, 16, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was killed when the 2002 Toyota 4-Runner SUV he was driving rolled on a gravel road.
The crash occurred at 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at the intersection of 275th Street and 379th Avenue, 2 miles south of New Holland.
Carle was traveling east when he lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road, which went into the ditch. He was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says it is investigating the crash.
