RELIANCE-A small grass fire in the median of Interstate 90 near Reliance was extinguished quickly Thursday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m., officials responded to a report of a fire in the median of I-90 between mile markers 255 and 256, according to Lyman County Sheriff Steve Manger.
Manger said the fire was small, about 50 feet long by 5 feet wide, and the Reliance Fire Department had the flame extinguished in approximately 10 minutes.
Manger said he is unsure what caused the fire, but speculates something dropped off a vehicle traveling down the road, and it sparked in the ditch.
Other responding agencies were the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Chamberlain Police Department.
