Sizable hailstones fell in multiple locations throughout The Daily Republic's circulation area Tuesday night.

The biggest reported to the National Weather Service was 1.25-inch hail located one mile northwest of Salem. That report came from a trained weather spotter.

One-inch hail was reported by law enforcement at locations two miles west of Salem, nine miles north of Bridgewater and seven miles south of Mitchell.

Public reports from near Herrick indicated hailstones three-quarters of an inch in diameter.

Three miles west of Humboldt, there were public reports of wind gusts reaching 60 mph. Seven miles northnortheast of Montrose, there were reports of wind damage with branches down.

There was a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the area late Wednesday. Today's forecast for Mitchell is mostly sunny with a slight chance of early morning showers and thunderstorms. The high temperature is predicted to be around 78 and west-northwest winds around 7 to 10 mph.
