A Guatemalan man was arrested May 7 on Interstate 90 in Mitchell for allegedly attempting to hide his identity from law enforcement.

Silvestre Lopez-Martin, 20, is charged with false personation with the intent to deceive law enforcement and driving without a license as a result of a traffic stop by state Highway Patrol trooper John Lord on I-90 near mile marker 331.

According to court documents, Lopez-Martin allegedly told Lord his name was "Antonio Camilo" and claimed to possess a driver's license, but could not provide one.

Court documents also list a Huron address for Lopez-Martin.

Two Spanish-speaking officers were contacted to assist with the stop and Immigration and Customs Enforcement was contacted to run a background check.

After the decision was made to detain Lopez-Martin, he provided officers with a Guatemalan passport with his actual name, court documents state. An ICE background check revealed Lopez-Martin was scheduled to appear in federal court on May 8 in Omaha, Neb.

Lopez-Martin was released from jail May 8 on a $250 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Davison County court later this month.
