RAPID CITY (AP) -- Authorities are calling off a ground search for a South Dakota teenager who went missing while kayaking at Deerfield Lake in the Black Hills after they were unable to find him.
Fifteen-year-old Justin Lewis went missing Monday afternoon. Searchers found his kayak filled with water the next morning. About 100 people have been involved in the search for him the past couple of days. Authorities also have used a boat equipped with sonar to scan the bottom of the lake.
The Pennington County Sheriff's Office said Thursday evening that the search operation has transitioned to a recovery operation.
Lewis lived with his family near the lake west of Rapid City.
