Dayle Hammock, of Spearfish, has been appointed to represent District 31 in the South Dakota House of Representatives, Governor-elect Kristi Noem announced Wednesday.

The vacancy was created after the death of Rep. Chuck Turbiville, who was re-elected posthumously on Nov. 6.

Hammock, who will be appointed to the legislature on Jan. 7, will serve during the 2019 and 2020 sessions. He served in law enforcement for more than 40 years and has served on other public service roles, including the Meade County Commission, Meade County Planning Commission and the Ellsworth Task Force.
