Evans announces run for Libertarian Party nomination
Kurt Evans has announced his candidacy for the Libertarian Party's gubernatorial nomination.
Evans, of Wessington Springs, ran for the U.S. Senate in 2002 and received .91 percent of the vote against Democrat Tim Johnson and Republican John Thune. In 2014, he received 20.1 percent of the vote in his run for South Dakota State auditor.
He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1993 after studying mathematics and science education and went on to become a high school teacher, according to a press release from the Libertarian Party of South Dakota.
Evans will vie against C.J. Abernathey for the Libertarian nomination at LPSD's convention in Fort Pierre on June 9.
