DELL RAPIDS (AP) - South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks wants people looking for fun on the water to steer clear of the Big Sioux River close to Dell Rapids.

The agency says the state Department of Transportation is doing work on a bridge over the river south of the city.

People who want to canoe, swim and boat should avoid the area for the summer and the early part of the fall.

Game, Fish and Parks Regional Supervisor Emmett Keyser says the area is "pretty treacherous" and should be avoided.

Keyser says the state has miles of rivers and lakes that people can use.
