An issue referred to the ballot by local residents, along with two races for elected office, will be featured in the second of two Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce forums tonight.
Candidates for the Mitchell school board and the GOP nomination for Davison County treasurer will make their cases, and two speakers will debate converting three city streets from one-way traffic to two-way.
The speakers will make opening and closing statements and then will field questions from a media panel and from the audience. The forum starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Mitchell Technical Institute Technology Center amphitheater, 1800 E. Spruce St.
School board candidates Neil Putnam, Ed Potzler, Theresa Kriese and Craig
Guymon will speak first. Kriese and Putnam are the incumbents. It is scheduled to last 48 minutes.

Davison County Treasurer Brenda Veldheer and challenger Christie Gunkel, both Republicans, will speak next. It is scheduled to last 27 minutes.
Mayoral candidate Jerry Toomey, who led the petition drive to refer a council decision on changing the streets, will speak in favor of keeping Second, Third and Fourth avenues one-way streets.
Downtown businessman and Mitchell Main Street & Beyond board member Jeff Logan will speak in favor of changing the streets to two-way traffic. That is scheduled to last 27 minutes. The election will be June 5. The deadline to register to vote is 5 p.m. Monday.
