A Fort Thompson man convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm was sentenced Wednesday in federal court.
Bryant Ross, 39, was sentenced to nine months of imprisonment, 18 months of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Ross was indicted by a federal grand jury July 16. He pleaded guilty Aug. 29.
The conviction stems from an incident Feb. 23, when a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer made contact with Ross in the Old Fort campground area off Highway 47.
At that time, it was learned that Ross had an active tribal warrant. During his arrest on the tribal warrant, two firearms were discovered in Ross’ possession.

In 1998, Ross was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, which makes him a prohibited person.
Ross was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
