PIERRE (AP) - Former South Dakota state Rep. Louise Van Gerpen has died.

Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home says Van Gerpen died Friday in Tyndall at age 89. Gov. Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags at the state Capitol to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, the day of her funeral in Avon.

Gov. Bill Janklow appointed Van Gerpen to the state House of Representatives in 1983 to replace her husband, Roland Van Gerpen, who had died. She served in the House in 1983 and 1984.

Van Gerpen's son, Bill, is currently a state senator from District 19.
