OLIVET -- A house in southeastern Olivet was deemed a complete loss Monday afternoon after a fire, the cause of which has not been determined.
The Euclid Street house was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 2 p.m., and the fire had burned through the ceiling and roof, Menno Assistant Fire Chief Shannon Herrboldt told The Daily Republic on Tuesday morning.
No one was inside the house when the fire began, and no other structures were affected. Herrboldt said the fire was reported by someone passing by.
Between 15 and 20 Menno firefighters worked to put out the fire and were called back when it flared up again. In total, Herrboldt said the fire took about three hours to extinguish, with assistance of about 15 additional people from the Scotland Fire Department.
