TOLSTOY, S.D. - Two people have been confirmed dead after a house fire Saturday, May 18, north of Tolstoy in north-central South Dakota.

“There were two fatalities at a rural farm, south of Bowdle and north of Tolstoy,” said Kyle Couchey, coroner for Edmunds County and a sheriff’s deputy.

A house fire was reported Saturday morning in rural Tolstoy just as it was getting light out, Couchey said.

Tolstoy is about 75 miles west of Aberdeen.

A cause of death has not been determined, nor has a cause for the fire.

The fire remains under investigation with the Edmunds County Sheriff’s Department and the state fire marshal.
