Crews from Mitchell and other nearby small towns have been dispatched to a fire at the Poet ethanol plant at Loomis.
The call for aid came just a few minutes before noon. Other crews were sent over the next 30 minutes.
The seriousness of the fire is unknown at present, but only a few small flames have been seen above the building. Firefighters are working in frigid temperatures, with wind chills dipping to minus-28.
