Mari Olson/Republic/One of the acts this weekend for "Ladies Night Out" will include a skit called "Fiber Floozy Cruise," written by Micaela Nelson and starring Cathy Weber (second from left) and Julie Hart Schutte. Also shown is Lauretta Cole-Larsen, far left, and not shown is Sarah Dittmer. The skit follows sisters Glad and Flo through a humorous exchange of witty banter as they enjoy their cruise and the scenery provided by the waiter and ship's captain.

The Fiber Floozies are doing more than just quilting on this cruise.

As Cathy Weber and Julie Hart Schutte exchange witty banter and quilting squares, it's apparent that the latter's attention is more easily drawn by material goods of a more masculine nature.

A few laughs later and that fact is proven in "The Fiber Floozy Cruise," a play by Area Community Theatre member Micaela Nelson.

This is just one of the skits to be performed Friday and Saturday during the ACT's "Ladies Night Out" at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre for Performing Arts, Mitchell.

The dessert theater is aimed for adult female audiences, but co-director Hart Schutte said some men attend and enjoy the show as well.

The ACT has produced the "Ladies Night Out" for three years now and laughs are expected to return this weekend with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. and wine will be sold by the glass prior to the show. Chocolate mint cheesecake will be served at intermission at no extra cost and door prizes will also be given away.

There are five skits in all and two sing-alongs with the audience.

"They're all fun shows that people should be able to laugh (at), maybe recognize a few things about their own lives, but primarily have a good time," Hart Schutte said.

"Ladies Night Out" began when a group of people got together and discussed adding something "different" to the schedule, she said.

Winter was chosen for no particular reason, but it doesn't hurt to laugh any time of the year.

"Beat those winter doldrums," she said. "... Get out and have a good time and laugh and beat the winter bleakness."

The skits are all comedies and range from an anti-cleaner's monologue to a skit about a bake-off that goes "horribly and violently wrong."

Advance $10 tickets are only available at the Antique Mall and go up to $12 at the door during the nights of performances.
