SIOUX FALLS (AP) - Two African wild dogs are now on display at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls.

KSFY-TV reports that 11-year-old Chili and 6-year-old Safia are part of an African wild dog species survival plan. The dogs are commonly referred to as African painted dogs due to spots on their bodies that resemble paint splotches

About 6,600 African wild dogs remain in the wild. They are considered to be an endangered species, due to habitat loss, disease and poaching.
