The Mitchell School District announced Monday that classes would begin one hour late Tuesday, Feb. 16 due to subzero temperatures that are forecast for the morning and the timing of the sunrise.

Lows in the Mitchell area have been well below zero for the last few days, with temperatures dipping to as much as -21 degrees at the Mitchell Airport overnight, according to readings from the National Weather Service.

The forecast for Tuesday anticipates a temperature near -16 with 11 miles-per-hour winds at 8 a.m. in Mitchell. Temperatures are expected to rise to above zero later in the day.
