Mitchell Technical Institute recognized its graduates for the class of 2020 Friday.

The school saw 440 students graduate this year, with 326 associate of applied sciences (AAS) degrees and 114 diplomas awarded. Of those graduating, 131 AAS students have earned high honors or honors for achieving cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or higher through the end of the Fall 2019 semester. Graduates are from twelve states and Puerto Rico, and from 131 South Dakota communities other than Mitchell.

Thirty students were named the 21st annual Spirit of MTI Award winners. These students represent each on-campus program and were selected by their instructors as best representing the Spirit of MTI.

Because of the restrictions put in place due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this is the first class at MTI to graduate with full-online instruction during the second half of the spring semester. It is also the last class to graduate from Mitchell Technical Institute as the school’s name will change to Mitchell Technical College on July 1.

Earlier this spring, graduates voted to graduate by mail. Each graduate will receive a personalized gift box at the end of May containing their signed diplomas, copies of a commemorative printed program, celebratory items and and other honors, awards or certificates they may have earned.
