DWU splits with Morningside at Cadwell Saturday

The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team scored all four of its runs in the first inning of Saturday's win over Morningside.

The Tigers won that game 4-3, and eventually split a doubleheader played at Cadwell Park.

Tigers' pitcher Brandi Nekrassoff pitched in the Game 1 win. She threw a complete game and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run and a walk.

Nekrassoff allowed five hits, two walks and struck out three.

Nicole Haley was 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, a run and two walks, and Jackie Pugliese scored one run and had an RBI.

All of Morningside's offense came from two home runs by the same player.

In the second game, DWU trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the seven. The team had the bases loaded with one out, but the team failed to score.

Jackie Pugilese led the Tigers in the second game, going 2-for-4 from the plate. Nekrassoff threw the second game and took the loss despite throwing a complete game. She allowed two runs on six hits and no walks, striking out seven.

The Tigers are now 4-12 in the GPAC and 8-18 overall.

Because of the recent weather, the team has been forced to cancel its remaining nonconference games. This includes Tuesday's game against Black Hills State University.
