DUI arrest after man allegedly hits 3 children on bikes near Tea

TEA (AP) -- A man is in custody after allegedly hitting three children on bicycles with his pickup truck while driving drunk near the southeast South Dakota city of Tea, which is just south of Sioux Falls.

TEA (AP) -- A man is in custody after allegedly hitting three children on bicycles with his pickup truck while driving drunk near the southeast South Dakota city of Tea, which is just south of Sioux Falls.

According to media reports, the incident happened about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Lincoln County prosecutor Tom Wollman says the boys are of middle school age. He tells the media at least two were taken to a hospital. One was quickly released, and the other had broken bones. Wollman did not have information on the third.

Tea Assistant Fire Chief Steve Oberle says all three children were conscious and talking when paramedics arrived.

The 30-year-old driver was arrested on drunken driving and vehicular battery charges. He was expected to make his initial court appearance Monday afternoon.
