Duane Paul Shafer, 77, Letcher, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, as a result of a motor vehicle accident west of Letcher.
Cremation has taken place and there are no funeral arrangements.
Arrangements were under the direction of Basham Funeral Home, Woonsocket.
He was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, to Darrell William and Pauline Besse (Sampson) Shafer.
He was an Air Force veteran. He retired from federal service as a system analyst for the Department of the Interior.

He is survived by his former wife, Virginia Shafer; two daughters: Paul Adams; and Sarah Braun; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
