MADISON - Dakota State University in Madison will use a $750,000 grant to offer education for students with disabilities in areas related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or STEM.
The five-year award is part of a $20 million grant the South Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research was awarded earlier this year from the National Science Foundation.
DSU says faculty and graduate students will look for ways to create opportunities for students with disabilities, including developing fully-accessible STEM courses that can be completed using software.
To broaden the number of students who can benefit from such technology, DSU says it will also create programs to educate current and future K-12 teachers on how to use assistive software to help students with learning, mobility and sensory disabilities.
