Doris Lorene Lowe, 88, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Fountain Springs Health Care Facility, Rapid City.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, with the Rev. Kent Narum officiating. Burial will be in Bear Butte Cemetery, Sturgis. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral chapel.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1920, in Sanborn, Minn., to Hans and Minnie (Carlson) Hanson.

She moved to Hanson County as a young girl. She lived on a farm and attended country school.

After completing her education, she moved to Mitchell, where she worked for a short time in the local hospital.

On July 3, 1943, she married Gideon Lee Simpson at Mitchell. They lived in numerous places in South Dakota.

He died in 1978.

She later married Claude Lowe. He died in 1986.

She was a lifelong member of New Home Lutheran Church, Mitchell.

She was a member of Meade County Senior Center while living in Sturgis.

She lived in New Underwood and later moved north of Rapid City and then into Rapid City.

She is survived by her daughter, Keri Simpson, Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister, Alyce Knutson and husband Vern, Lakewood, Colo.; two brothers: Ken Hanson and wife Arbutus, Custer; and Darrell Hanson and wife Bev, Mitchell; and a son-in-law, Jim Funell, Rapid City.

She was preceded in death by both her husbands, a daughter, Deanna Funell; her parents, a sister, Hazel Simpson; and a brother, Wayne Hanson.

Memorials have been established to the Fountain Springs Health Care Center, Rapid City; and New Home Lutheran Church, Mitchell.
