RAPID CITY (AP) - Delta Air Lines is adding nonstop once-a-week flights between Rapid City and Atlanta, beginning next June.
It will be the seventh major hub to which fliers out of the western South Dakota city can connect, joining Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago and Minneapolis.
"Anytime an airport can connect to more hubs, it offers more travel options for passengers from the Black Hills area and those coming to the Black Hills," Airport Director Cameron Humphres said.
The Saturday flights between Rapid City and Atlanta will be on 65-passenger jets, the Rapid City Journal reported. Airport Board of Directors President Lisa Modrick said that if the Saturday flights are successful, additional flights might be added throughout the week.
"The airlines, the bottom line for them, a route has to be profitable," Humphres said.
