DELMONT - One person was airlifted to Sioux Falls on Tuesday following a one-vehicle car accident in Douglas County outside Delmont.
The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on 284th Street on the western edge of Delmont, near the corner of 401st Street. A Ford E350 conversion van had five people inside and was traveling west on the oil road when the vehicle lost control on a patch of ice located on a curve and crashed into the road's north ditch. The vehicle was tipped onto the passenger side as a result of the accident.
Suffering an arm injury in the accident was Felix Chub, 22, of Delmont. Chub was the only one of the five occupants to be injured and was taken by a third party to the Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour. From there, he was airlifted to Sioux Falls in stable condition to receive advanced care, South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Casey Bassett said Wednesday. The vehicle was driven by Horacio Herrera, 52, of Mitchell.
Bassett said it appeared that each of the occupants was wearing their seat belt. Herrera was traveling at about 35 mph, which is the speed limit. But due to the conditions, Herrera was cited for overdriving the road conditions, Bassett said.
