DEADWOOD (AP) -- The city of Deadwood will soon replace six sets of hillside pedestrian stairways that connect various streets.
Deadwood public works director Jim Raysor tells the media that many of the railings on the stairways don't meet code standards.
Also, he says the steps are smooth, so when it gets icy, they become slippery. The new steps will have traction.
The stairway renovation project will cost approximately $254,000, with the majority of the funds coming from the Department of Transportation.
