SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls school officials have instructed staff members to double check the doors at an elementary school after a custodian found an intruder sleeping in a classroom.
KELO-TV reports parents of Mark Twain Elementary School students received a letter Monday about the incident that happened just before Thanksgiving break. A custodian found the man sleeping in a classroom during his morning rounds before students arrived.
District officials say the man never posed any danger. The custodian immediately got the man out of the building and then called police. Money was later reported missing from some teachers' desks.
Administrators say the man likely got into the building because one of the doors didn't properly close. They have since gone over security policies with teachers.
Police are still looking for the man.
