An arrest warrant has been issued for a Freeman man accused of strangling another person.

Deiby Antonio Rivera-Artica, 31, has been charged with aggravated assault for applying pressure to a woman's throat on Dec. 30, according to court documents.

A police summary filed in public court documents says the Freeman Police were contacted by the hospital on Jan. 4 about a patient who reported being a victim of domestic violence. The victim told police Rivera-Artica broke down a door and began to abuse her, including using the phrase, "Now I'm going to kill you."

The victim had bruises on her body, and she went to the hospital because of pain in her neck. She told officers she was pinned down by Rivera-Artica with his knee on her throat.

Aggravated assault domestic abuse is a Class 3 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
