WILLMAR, Minn. — Unconditional bail was set at $1 million Friday, Sept. 4, for Algene Leeland Vossen, 79, charged in the death of Mabel Agnes Boyer Herman in January 1974.
Vossen is facing one felony count of murder in the second degree, with intent not premeditated. The charge carries a sentence of 40 years in prison if Vossen is found guilty. Vossen did not enter a plea Friday.
Vossen was arrested July 23 in Sioux Falls, S.D., after a cold case investigation by the Willmar Police Department connected him to the death with DNA evidence. He had been questioned about the killing in 1974, but it wasn't until 2020 that he was arrested and charged.
He was extradited from South Dakota to Minnesota, arriving in Willmar on Thursday, Sept 3. Vossen is booked in the Kandiyohi County Jail.
