ALEXANDRIA -- An Alexandria man was arrested on June 14 for allegedly pointing a rifle at a woman and threatening to kill her.

Lonnie Hartman, 78, faces a count of aggravated domestic assault, among other charges.

According to court documents, a family member notified the police of a potential aggravated domestic assault after receiving a text message from the woman. The previous night, Hartman threw a TV remote at the woman when she asked what he was watching on TV.

The woman stated she didn’t want the remote and tossed it back. Hartman allegedly started to hit the woman on the head with the remote. It prompted her to try to call the police, but Hartman allegedly pointed his loaded rifle at her and threatened to kill her. The woman was able to safely get the rifle out of his possession, and then unloaded the gun.

Hartman admitted to grabbing the gun, but did not remember whether he pointed it at the woman.

Aggravated domestic assault is a Class 3 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. He also faces a Class 1 misdemeanor.
