CHAMBERLAIN — Three Chamberlain men have been charged with beating a fourth man until he lost consciousness on March 7.

Gabriel Benson, 27, and Samuel Benson, 23, have been arrested since their indictment on April 23, while a warrant for 25-year-old Benjamin Benson's arrest was still active as of Wednesday afternoon.

According to court documents, the victim was struck and kicked in the body and face.

All three Bensons are charged with aggravated assault, a Class 3 felony, and with simple assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor, in the alternative. An additional alternative charge filed against Gabriel Benson alleges he threatened the victim with a knife. Samuel Benson is also charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor for allegedly causing $600 in damage to security cameras belonging to the victim.

Habitual offender information has been filed against two of the men, stating Samuel Benson was convicted of felony possession of stolen property last week in Brule County and Gabriel Benson was convicted of attempted second-degree burglary in Pennington County and possession with intent to distribute marijuana in Brookings County in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

Brule County State's Attorney Theresa Maule Rossow declined to comment on whether the three men are related.
