SISSETON, S.D. — A 21-year-old Roberts County man, who was arrested in Minneapolis, faces life in prison after being charged in federal court with three counts relating to abuse of a child.

Michael Robinson, also known as Michael O'Brien Jr., is charged with assault and abusive conduct with a child under 7 years old.

He faces charges of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, felony child abuse and neglect of a child in an incident that occurred last October in Roberts County.

He was arrested in Minneapolis after his indictment in January and pleaded not guilty to the charges in federal court there.

Robinson was released with conditions pending trial and is ordered to appear in federal court in Aberdeen on March 31.

The investigation in the case is being conducted by the FBI and the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe's Law Enforcement agency.
