WESSINGTON SPRINGS — An Alpena man was sentenced Feb. 6 to two days in jail for assaulting a woman in November.
Shawn Hoglo, 31, pleaded guilty to simple assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and was ordered to spend one year on supervision.
On Nov. 16, law enforcement responded to a residence on Alpena’s Main Street for a report of a woman who had been hit several times and thrown to the ground.
According to court documents, the woman said Hoglo had shoved her to the floor and had thrown both her cell phone and her house phone when she tried to call 911.
At one point, the woman reported, Hoglo had choked her with his hands, causing her to lose consciousness. The woman was taken to a hospital and medically cleared, and Hoglo was arrested and transported to the Beadle County Jail.
Hoglo was originally charged with aggravated assault, a Class 3 felony, and interference with emergency communications, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
Fifty-eight days of Hoglo’s 60-day jail sentence were suspended, and he was ordered to reimburse the victim for her phone and pay $502.50 in fines and court costs.
