Two people were arrested Tuesday morning when police allegedly found drugs valued at more than $10,000 in a Mitchell motel room.

Ryan Suing, 41, and Jennifer Thaler, 39, both of Mitchell, face three felony drug-related charges.

At 9:40 a.m., an unknown caller asked police to respond to a motel room in the 1700 block of South Burr Street. Police reportedly smelled marijuana in the room, where they made contact with Suing and Thaler.

The James Valley Drug Task Force later executed search warrants in the room; at 807 N. Duff St., where Suing and Thaler both reportedly live; and in two commercial storage units.

In total, officers allegedly found 2.75 pounds of marijuana, split between 86 packages; 78 containers of marijuana wax; 27 containers of butane hash oil; 16 THC vape pen cartridges; eight containers of THC capsules; seven bags of THC edibles; and two THC inhalers, as well as $3,492 in cash, a digital scale and empty plastic baggies.

Both Suing and Thaler are charged with unauthorized possession of a controlled substance in schedules I or II, unauthorized possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of more than a half pound and less than a pound of marijuana. If convicted on all charges, they could each be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

Investigation is ongoing, and police have indicated more charges may be filed.

The Mitchell Police Division, Davison and Hanson county sheriffs' offices, Division of Criminal Investigation and Highway Patrol were involved in the investigation.
