TYNDALL — A man charged in May 2019 with possessing synthetic marijuana in Mike Durfee State Prison was given a 90-day suspended sentence on Jan. 7 for misprision of a felony.

Anthony Pewo, 33, was initially charged with possession of drugs while an inmate in the Springfield prison and with being a habitual offender convicted of five prior violent crimes. He pleaded guilty to the Class 1 misdemeanor of concealing knowledge of a crime, and the original charges were dismissed.

At the time charges were filed, Pewo was 6.5 years into a 13-year sentence for a vehicular homicide in Moody County. He was paroled in June and is now being supervised by a parole office in Yankton, according to a Department of Corrections database.
