A man was sentenced last week to 34 months in prison for sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy in 2015.

Chad Pease pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting the sexual abuse of a minor on Oct. 9, and he will spend five years on supervised release after his prison sentence is completed.

Chad and codefendant Julia Pease were indicted on March 12 and charged with aiding and abetting one another in the sexual abuse of the boy on July 6 and Sept. 1, 2015, on the Crow Creek reservation. Both were arrested on March 20.

According to documents filed in Julia Pease's case, Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement began investigating the Peases on May 10, 2018, when Julia Pease reported the incident.

The federal charge of aiding and abetting the sexual abuse of a minor is punishable upon conviction by up to 15 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

Julia Pease was sentenced to two years in prison in November, and Chad Pease was additionally ordered to pay a special assessment of $100.
