PARKSTON — Parkston's school and hospital were placed on a lockdown Friday morning but no incidents or arrests took place when the search ended in Mitchell.
According the the Parkston Police Department's Facebook page, the search for the male subject began at about 1 a.m. and ended at 7 a.m. when he was located in Mitchell. Parkston authorities said they were searching for a person believed to be armed, wearing jeans and a gray sweatshirt, but did not disclose why they were searching for the man.
Mitchell Police Division Sgt. Sawyer Gibson said officers did not find that the man was a threat to anyone else, and that he had instead made some threats against himself after an argument. They did not make an arrest in the case, and instead talked to the individual.
"There is no reason for the public to be concerned. I can't stress that enough," Gibson said.
People in Parkston were advised to lock their doors during the search. Students were allowed to attend school Friday despite the lockdown.
