A Mitchell man was charged Monday with raping a 5-year-old girl.
Raymond Stransky, 61, now faces three charges in connection with the alleged incident, the most serious of which could send him to prison for life, if convicted.
On Monday, Mitchell police were informed that a 5-year-old girl had told her mother Stransky had raped her the previous Friday.
According to court documents, during a recorded interview, Stransky admitted to the rape and other sexual contact with the girl.
Stransky was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree rape, sexual contact with a child under 16 and sexual exploitation of a minor.
If convicted of raping a child under the age of 13, Stransky could be sentenced to up to life in prison. The other two charges carry a combined additional maximum prison sentence of 17 years.
