Former Rosebud Tribal Police captain pleads not guilty to wire fraud
MISSION — The former captain of the Rosebud Tribal Police has pleaded not guilty to federal allegations that he wrote checks from two accounts he knew were empty or closed.
Calvin Waln Jr., 41, of Mission, was indicted on 22 counts of wire fraud by a federal grand jury. Waln has been released on bond pending trial, which is scheduled for May 28.
If convicted, Waln faces a maximum of 30 years in prison, a $1 million fine and five years of supervised release, and he could be ordered to pay restitution.
