Crow Creek treasurer denies sex offenses

PIERRE—The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe's treasurer pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning to federal charges of sex offenses.

Roland Hawk Sr., 50, of Fort Thompson, was arrested on a warrant Monday after being indicted by a federal grand jury last week on charges of aggravated sexual abuse and abusive sexual contact.

He was released on bond into the custody of his mother. As conditions of his release pending trial, he is not allowed to have contact with three women who are listed as victims or witnesses in the case, and he cannot go to Chamberlain.

The document filed following Hawk's court appearance mentions an additional pending warrant for Hawk out of Nevada. Multiple tribal members have told The Daily Republic this week that that warrant was issued in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Wednesday that it did not have more specific information on the Nevada warrant, and the Las Vegas Justice Court has not responded to The Daily Republic's request for a copy of the warrant.

A trial date has not yet been set in Hawk's case.
