Authorities believe Twin Cities man charged with sexual assault, videotaping victims, had other victims
ST. PAUL — Investigators believe a Shoreview man charged with sexually assaulting and secretly videotaping two women he previously dated had done it before, according to authorities.
The Ramsey County sheriff’s office made the disclosure in a news release issued Friday that asked members of the public who had past contact with Jeffrey Eldred or know someone who has to contact investigators at 651-266-7320.
“(We) have evidence of additional victims and are asking anyone to come forward; even if they did not have sexual contact with Eldred,” the release said.
Eldred was charged in Ramsey County District Court with third-degree criminal sexual conduct last November after a woman he dated through the online service Tinder reported that Eldred sexually assaulted her as she slept.
She told investigators she had too much to drink and ended up sleeping at Eldred’s house. She woke up hours later to find Eldred putting his genitals in her face, she said, according to the criminal complaint. He also tried to have sex with her throughout the night despite her insistence against it, the complaint said.
As the woman was using his computer the next morning, she came across 40 videos that appeared to show him sexually assaulting other women in their sleep, court documents say.
The woman took photographs of the videos and turned them over to the Ramsey County sheriff’s office. Investigators later secured a search warrant to seize Eldred’s phone.
They determined that one of the women repeatedly depicted in the videos used to have an intermittent relationship with Eldred.
She was contacted about the footage by investigators and said she was unaware of it, prompting the Hennepin County attorney’s office to file charges against Eldred.
He faces three counts of criminal sexual conduct and one count of stalking in that case, charges say.
Eldred has denied all allegations to investigators and pleaded not guilty in his Ramsey County case.
Prosecutors involved in that case filed a notice last month indicating they plan to introduce evidence at trial that Eldred also secretly took explicit photos of two other women he previously went on dates with between the fall of 2017 and fall 2018.
While no additional charges have been filed against him, a spokesman for the Ramsey County attorney’s office said Friday, April 12, that the office is reviewing additional information related to the case.
Eldred’s next court hearing is Monday.
