Fort Thompson man charged with assaulting woman
CHAMBERLAIN—A Fort Thompson man was arrested in Chamberlain on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting and choking a woman.
Police were informed that a fight had taken place on Sorenson Drive in Chamberlain at about 4:50 p.m. and that 20-year-old Denver Thompson had fled the scene on foot, running east, according to court documents.
Thompson was reportedly found and detained outside the hospital and told police that the fight had started when the woman involved bit him and he fought back.
The woman allegedly had multiple injuries on her face and neck and said that Thompson was responsible. She told police that Thompson had punched her numerous times and that he had tried to choke her.
Thompson was arrested and transported to the Brule County Jail. He is charged with domestic abuse aggravated assault — choking, a Class 3 felony. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.
